Dr. Tortolani is a graduate of Princeton University, where he received his
B.A. degree with high honors in Molecular Biology. He received his M.D. from Cornell
University Medical College. His post-graduate training
was at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Tortolani completed a spine fellowship
at Emory University.
He specializes in spinal surgery and treats all disorders of the cervical, thoracic,
and lumbar spine including reconstructive surgery for spinal tumors
and infection, scoliosis, and spondylolisthesis.
Dr. Tortolani is an expert in the field of cervical and lumbar disc replacement
surgery. He is actively involved in both clinical and basic science research in these areas.
Additional interests include motion-sparing and minimally-invasive
procedures including laminoplasty, kyphoplasty, microdiscetomy, and TLIF (transforaminal interbody fusion).
He has published on multiple topics including spinal stenosis, bone mineral deficiency in children,
image-guided instrumentation of the spine, and the effects of chemotherapy on spinal fusion.
He also performs general orthopaedic surgery and total hip replacement.
